  3. We organized Special Optoelectronic Session on Moscow Student Conference REEPE-2001 at the end February-begin March 2001 with Best Student Paper contest. Our Chapter was  financial sponsor of this contest. The Student Paper Contest was held in March 2001 after Student conference REEPE-2001. The winners in LEOS topics  were MPEI-TU students :
    • 1.  Post-graduate student Dryakin E.V., (the chief Prof. Kuleshov V.N. ), paper: " A model of the pulsed semiconductor-pumped solid-state laser used in range finders";
    • 2.  Post-graduate student Segen’ A.V.(the chief Prof. Baskakov S.I. ), two papers:"Modeling of the hierarchic basis of vortex field and the wavelet-analysis", and "A two-dimensional continuous wavelet-transformation of images";
  4. We have held several regular seminars every month (exclude July and August). We have three permanent places for seminars: 1) Conference-Hall in IRE RAS (11, Mokhovaja str.,  Moscow) for Moscow Electromagnetic Seminar; 2) Conference Hall of Quantum Radiphysics Division in P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute RAS (53 Lenin Prospect, Moscow) for Prof. A. Oraevsly Seminar; 3) S.A. Akhmanov Hall in Nonlinear Optics Building of the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University for Prof V. Shuvalov Seminar. The entrance to seminars is free of charge for all participants.

V. Miscellaneous Information

Our LEOS Chapter (together with Moscow IEEE AP-S Chapter and Student Branch MPEI-TU) has received in the begin of April 2001 the possibility to establish special IEEE office in MPEI-TU. This is two-room working space about 30 sq. meters from MPEI-TU Antennas & Propagation Department at the top floor of the MPEI laboratory building and some space on the roof for placing TV and DBS antennas. We are planning to sign over this place for use as office, LEOS & AP-S chapter library, and meeting & seminar room. It’s no need to pay any rent to MPEI from IEEE entities, but it will be necessary to have operational costs (cleaning up, electric power, phone, internet, and so on). It’s necessary also to redecorate the rooms and to buy some new equipment. The establishing of the Chapter IEEE office will be one of our main goals in 2001-2002.
